WOW! This year has gone by fast. Over these past months we have attempted to enlighten but, more importantly to encourage you to become more adapt in utilizing social media to promote the Rotary brand. Funny how we love it so much, know the good deeds we are a
part of, take pride in the global effort and make our weekly meetings, but we hold back (at least most of us do) in openly talking about Rotary in our daily life. Jokes, recipes, pictures of us doing crazy things or sefies are not an issue but, the overwhelming majority of us just do not share the fact that we are Rotarians.
Social Media Marketing Works!
We leave you this month in the hopes that you might reconsider that. The reason is really quite clear … people, your friends, family and the world need Rotary. Simply reflect on the true impact of all accomplished through this organization. And the best part is that YOU have the power and influence to potentially change another’s life through the simple sharing of the fun, fellowship, community service, and friends developed right in your community. Please try it! You will feel better and it will be a treasure to see someone you know outside of your Rotary club actually develop an interest to know more. Become an ‘Ambassador’ of Rotary International today and simply talk about it on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Periscope or any other media and manner you can.
WHAT? WAIT … There’s More!!!
Up Periscope.
In March 2015, Twitter purchased Periscope for $100 Million Dollars. It was officially relaunched on March 26th and has become (now) one of the fastest growing segments of social media EVER!
The app became so well known as the news broke when the recent Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight was seen for free by an estimated 500k
people who never paid the $90 to view it on Premium Channels. This was done through Periscope.
The services of Periscope are available in the mobile application itself as well as on Twitter. Users of Periscope are able to choose whether or not to make their video public or simply viewable to certain users such as their friends or families. Periscope allows viewers to send “hearts” to the broadcaster by tapping on the mobile screen as a form of appreciation. Now available for use on IOS (iPhone) or Android mobile devices, this app will allow anyone, any club, any person with a phone to for FREE broadcast an immediate LIVE feed of whatever and wherever they are. The uses and benefits of how this can beneft a Rotary Club are endless. I hope to see more of how YOU choose to use this in your club. Onward and upward.
